Distance time graphs
Jerry walks 1 m in 10 seconds. It stops for 5 seconds. He spots Tom in the distance, and then runs 2 m to his mouse hole in 10 seconds.
We can represent this journey on a distance time graph.
The higher the speed the steeper the slope. Stationary = hoizontal line.
Tom walks slowly along the hall. He travels 5 m in 5 seconds. He stops for 10 seconds as he watches Jerry. He runs 20 m in 10 seconds in an attempt to catch Jerry. He hits the wall with a large bang!
Construct a distance time graph of Tom’s journey.
A car travels 10 km in ½ hour. The driver stops for ¼ hour. She then travels 30 km in ¼ hr.
Draw a distance time graph of this journey. What is the driver’s average speed over this hour?
